It’s not a magic trick, but a technology called sublimation. Of course, the hinges are not wooden, but made of materials such as aluminium, stainless steel, alloy steel, zinc alloys or plastic. The visible parts of the hinges, constituting the aesthetic finish, are powder-coated as standard, anodised or alternatively sublimated to imitate wood.
Sublimation is used on many products, in a wide variety of industries. This technique is very simple. The pattern is printed on a suitable sublimation foil or paper (in cases where the pattern is a lettering design, it is very important that the print is a mirror image). The print is then adhered to the item and, using a professional press or oven (so-called the thermal-transfer method), the pattern is transferred to the product at very high temperatures.
WALA uses the sublimation for patterns imitating wood. In the case of door hardware, the elements are previously covered with the base colour of the selected wood type, and then the pattern imitating the wood grain is applied using the sublimation method. The standard offer includes golden oak and walnut colours, but of course, on special request, it is possible to make door hardware in colours such as mahogany, swamp oak, Winchester, palisander, etc.
Handles can also be finished by a wood imitation sublimation. In cooperation with a partner, a custom-made flush pull handle in Winchester colour gives the impression of being carved in wood. It is equipped with the eKey dLine fingerprint scanner and additionally illuminated with a cold white LED strip.
Undoubtedly, wood-style sublimation is a very striking finish for door hardware. Hinges and handles matched properly to the door panel design look great. They can emphasise the character of the door with a faithful imitation of various types of wood or be concealed subtly to form a uniform and coherent whole.
